Less than 6 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park, and only an hour away from Denver, the Stanley Hotel has the bragging rights to some of the most spectacular views in Colorado. It's also considered one of the most haunted hotels in America. In fact, author Stephen King stayed there while writing "the Shining." So, if you choose to have your elopement at the Stanley, don't be surprised if you sense some uninvited ghostly guests.

The Stanley offers two elopement packages, one for up to 8 guests and one for up to 16 guests, with several ceremony site choices, including the intimate Ranch Room with a crackling fireplace, and the outdoor gazebo with a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains. You will also receive one night in the bridal suite, as well as a certificate for a night's stay on your one-year anniversary.

How about getting married in a real castle? Built in 1889, the Castle Marne is listed on the National Register of Historic Structures. While the rooms are decorated in period pieces, you get the sense you just stepped back in time. However, the private hot tubs in many of the rooms will let you know you also have today's amenities with yesterday's charm. They offer several elopement packages starting at $807 (2009 prices). If you've got the money, go for the "Fire & Ice" package for $1,617.00 which includes

  • a dozen Fire and Ice Roses
  • wedding cake for two
  • romantic six course candlelight dinner at the Castle Marne
  • 2 Honeymoon nights in the Presidential Suite, a 3-room suite which is reproduced much as it was 118 years ago
  • 2nd-night dinner at the Historic Fort restaurant

Dripping Springs is located in Estes Park on a trout stream called the Big Thompson River. Built in 1926, it boasts private hot tubs on the decks for the ultimate in romance. They offer many elopement and small wedding packages, starting with the economical, yet romantic, "Streamside Elopement Package for 2" for 4695 (2009 prices). This package can either be by the river, or on a clif with the canyon as your backdrop. A 2-night stay in a room with a private hot tub is included, as is breakfast in the Inn's dining room.

Another Estes Park venue, Marys Lake Lodge and Resort is situated on the Eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, with spectacular views of the Continental Divide. They provide an elopement package for 2 to 25, which includes an indoor or outdoor ceremony site, the officiant, a romantic dinner for two, and a massage in their Escape Spa & Salon. 2009 prices for this package are $850 November through April, and $995 May through October.
